International meeting of the Erasmus+ project “Fighting Bullying at School” (FABAS) in France

2022 m. October 13 d., 15:24

2022 m. 3-5 October A mobility visit and an international meeting of project partners in Guerande, France. During the international partners’ meeting, the further progress of the project, the date of the Italian visit, the project budget and the final project product were discussed. The mobility visit to France focused on practical activities: project partners from Spain, Italy, France, Belgium and Lithuania analysed different bullying situations, looked for solutions using their own experience in the field, shared their valuable experience, and introduced school-based prevention programmes.

As is the case all over the world, bullying is one of the most pressing problems in France. Olivier Guichard Vocational School 15-18 years Students acted out bullying situations. The school has pupils with learning difficulties, absenteeism and diversity. Catherine, the theatre teacher, was able to get these students interested in theatre and this is how the young people shared their experiences of bullying based on race, body shape, style, etc. with the project partners. After the play, the project had a discussion with the students – they discussed what they think bullying is, what their experiences have been, and how we can work together to reduce bullying. For many of us, it seems unusual that not only boys, but also girls, are actively involved in bullying or even initiate it. During the discussion, a student’s thought is heard: ‘Girls are mostly psychologically bullied, while boys are mostly physically bullied (fighting, harassment, etc.)’.

The small Jules Verne Secondary School also has a bullying problem. The school’s head teacher, social worker and teachers said that almost every class has pupils with special educational needs, so bullying is quite common in their school. Teachers from the school shared their experience – bullying is addressed through bullying protocols, the PIKAS method, and joint activities that strengthen the bonds between pupils, and promote values such as respect for each other, sharing, etc.

The project partners also discussed Maslow’s pyramid to understand human needs, how basic human needs affect our confidence, self-esteem and how to develop them.

The project runs from 2020. September. until 2023 September. The project is implemented by Lithuania, Italy, France, Belgium, Spain and Italy.
